Ladies XC team score again

Club members were out in force again, at the weekend, for match number two of the THREE COUNTIES CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE in Hunsbury Country Park, Northamptonshire.

Conditions were perfect for navigating the twisting course through wooded trails and fields.  For the second time running the ladies team were in 2nd place behind local rivals Bedford.  The men's team were 6th in this match, down on their previous placing despite the appearance of their top athletes, demonstrating the incredibly high standard of the competition.

The next match is on Sunday 23rd November at Leighton Buzzard.

Fourth place for marathon virgin, Craig

It was a superb first marathon experience for Craig Brown last weekend in the STEVENAGE MARATHON, and even though he found it tough going towards the end, he still managed to finish in 4th place in a fantastic time of 2h 56m 51s.

Also competing was marathon veteran, and club legend, Ian Skerratt.  Ian’s time of 3h 44m 34s earned him a 4th place in the male vet 60-69 category.

Juliet's Rave Run

Congratulations to Juliet Naylor for being the first lady to finish at the LODE HALF MARATHON, in the Cambridgeshire fens, last weekend.  Unfortunately, the route had to be reduced to 11 miles because the authorities were still trying to break up a rave that had begun the night before.

Although the wet and windy weather conditions weren’t conducive for a good run, Juliet’s finish time was a respectable 1h 11m 14s.

Pete's leap of faith

Our mud warriors got off to a great start at the Three Counties Cross Country League in Wellingborough, last Sunday, with the ladies team securing second place, equal on points with the winners on the day, Bedford Harriers.  The men’s team finished seventh.

The multi-lap course at Croyland Park is deceptively draining, with switch-back turns making the most of the contours on offer to sap the strength from runners legs. Four steep, deep and muddy stream crossings just added to the effort needed for all but those brave enough to leap straight over.  All of our runners put in great performances for this first match of the season.

Men's scoring team:
Paul Davies 9th, Adam Murphy 27th, Nick Haworth 29th, Paul Cooke 66th, Giles Hawthorne 72nd, Damien Pitts 91st, Thom Berkery 117th,

Women's scoring team:
Juliet Naylor 5th, Isobel Everest 8th, Alice Ebbage 12th

Non-scorers:
Fiona Wynde 23rd, Charlie Arnold 123rd, Simon Strong 160th, Peter Howell 164th, Melanie Brooks 79th.

No trophy at Ampthill but a good start to the season

For some the Ampthill Trophy heralds the start of the cross country season and an opportunity to test the legs over this undulating, traffic-free route around the picturesque surroundings of Ampthill Park.

Well done to Adam Murphy, Rohan Ford and Daniel Hemming who all achieved excellent placings in their individual races.  No trophy this time, however, but lots of potential for the forthcoming cross country season.
